Archbishop Lynne McNaughton to support Lenten Quiet Day in the Diocese of Algoma
The Diocese of Algoma is pleased to extend a warm and prayerful welcome to The Most Rev. Lynne McNaughton, former Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon and Bishop of Kootenay, who will be with the Deanery of Thunder Bay–North Shore on Saturday, February 28, leading a Lenten Quiet Day centered on Viriditas — The Greening Power of God, drawn from the spirituality of St. Hildegard of Bingen.
Archbishop Lynne brings a depth of experience in Anglican spirituality, theological formation, parish ministry, and retreat leadership. Her ministry has consistently invited the Church into deeper attentiveness to the renewing work of the Holy Spirit — in Scripture, in prayer, in creation, and in the life of Christian community. The Quiet Day’s focus on Viriditas offers a fitting Lenten invitation to notice where God’s life is already stirring and to open ourselves more fully to that renewing grace.
While this visit arises from the faithful initiative of the Thunder Bay–North Shore Deanery, it is also a gift to the wider diocesan community. Opportunities to receive teaching and spiritual leadership from across the Church strengthen our shared life and remind us that we belong to a communion that extends well beyond our immediate context.
“Archbishop Lynne’s presence among us is a reminder that the Church’s life is always enriched when we receive one another’s gifts,” says Archbishop Anne Germond. “I am grateful for the prayerful leadership she offers and for the way this gathering invites participants to listen more deeply for God’s renewing work in their lives and communities.”
As Algoma continues to grow in its life of prayer, formation, and mission, moments like these help deepen our shared vocation. We give thanks for Archbishop Lynne’s willingness to share her gifts among us and pray that all who gather will be strengthened in faith, hope, and love for the season ahead.
