New Resources for Parishes

Around the feast of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4), Anglicans and many other Christians around the world give thanks for the gift of God’s creatures with a Blessing of the Animals. This joyful tradition celebrates the companionship and delight animals bring to our lives, while also reminding us of our Anglican call to care for creation—the Fifth Mark of Mission: “to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth.”

In Algoma, parishes celebrate this occasion in many different ways. Some hold community gatherings on Saturday, October 4 itself, while others incorporate the blessing into Sunday morning worship or host outdoor services in the afternoon. Whether large or small, these events provide wonderful opportunities for outreach and connection with the wider community.

To make it easier for parishes to promote their services, the diocesan communications office has prepared a set of adaptable Canva resources. These graphics and inserts can be customized with a parish’s own details and shared online or in print.

The resources are designed to lighten the load for parish leaders while encouraging local creativity and outreach.

As October approaches, we look forward to celebrating alongside parishes across Algoma as they bless animals, share God’s love, and give thanks for the gift of creation.
