Deanery of Algoma – Easter Vigil

Algoma Anglicans and ecumenical friends to gather at Emmaus Church, Sault Ste. Marie

Parishes across the Deanery of Algoma are invited to gather for the Easter Vigil at Emmaus Anglican Church in Sault Ste. Marie on Holy Saturday.

The liturgy will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the lighting of the new fire outdoors, followed by a procession into the church for worship.

All are welcome to attend. Parishes are encouraged to bring their Paschal Candles. Archbishop Anne Germond will preside and offer the blessing of new Paschal Candles for those introducing them this year.

The service reflects a strong spirit of collaboration across the deanery and beyond. Archbishop Anne will serve as Celebrant, with the Rev. Holly Klemmensen preaching.

Ecumenical partners will also take part in the liturgy. Pastor Brad Mittleholtz of Zion Lutheran Church will lead the Renewal of Baptismal Vows, and the Rev. Nancy Ferguson of Emmanuel United Church will offer prayers.

The Easter Vigil is one of the most ancient and central liturgies of the Christian year, marking the transition from darkness to light and proclaiming the resurrection of Christ.

All are warmly invited to take part in this shared celebration of the Resurrection.

Light refreshments will be offered following the service.
