As part of her official calendar of visits across the Diocese of Algoma, Archbishop Anne Germond spent Thursday afternoon with members of St. John’s, Garden River, together with Archdeacon Roberta Wilson-Garrett.
The visit was a time of prayer, conversation, and encouragement for this faithful congregation, which continues to grieve the death of Deacon Lana Grawbarger, who passed away earlier this year. Her ministry of presence and compassion touched the lives of many within the Garden River community and beyond.
“Lana understood her diaconal ministry as being there for everyone who came to her for prayer or a pastoral office,” said Archbishop Anne. “Her loss has been deeply felt throughout the parish and the wider community.”
Amid their grief, the people of St. John’s are also giving thanks. Aydne Grawbarger is being raised up as a Lay Reader in the parish and has begun offering services of Morning Prayer on Sundays when the Rev. Bruce McLeish is not present for the Eucharist.
As this community finds a new path forward, we continue to hold them in prayer — asking that the Lord strengthen them in faith and bless them with peace and hope.
