By Thorneloe University Communications
As we prepare to enter the holy season of Advent, Thorneloe University is offering a thoughtful and creative way to engage the lectionary through the lens of film. “Movies for Advent” is a four-week series curated by the Rev. Jason Tripp, inviting participants to explore themes of longing, hope, incarnation, and justice through a set of intentionally paired films and Scripture readings.
How It Works
Each week includes:
- A selected film for viewing on your own
- A set of downloadable discussion guides
- An opportunity to reflect on how the film’s themes intersect with that week’s Advent lections
To introduce the series, Jason has prepared a short video reflection and invitation:

Parishes are encouraged to use these resources to host their own Advent film circles—online or in person.
