Obituary: Father Hamish Currie of Sault Ste. Marie (1952–2025)
With heartfelt sorrow, the Diocese of Algoma shares news of the unexpected passing of Father Hamish Currie on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the age of 73. We give thanks for his life and ministry, and we join our Roman Catholic brothers and sisters in Sault Ste. Marie — and beyond — in mourning his passing and celebrating his faithful witness.
Father Hamish was known and loved in countless ways — as pastor, friend, mentor, musician, artist, and companion on the journey of life and faith. His ministry was marked by humility, kindness, humour, and deep compassion. He brought joy and light into the lives of all who knew him, and his witness to God’s love will long be remembered.
Funeral Arrangements:
- Visitation & Vigil Service: Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Precious Blood Cathedral (778 Queen Street E., Sault Ste. Marie), from 11:00 a.m. until the conclusion of the Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Archbishop Anne Germond will preach at the Vigil.
- Eulogies: Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Precious Blood Cathedral.
- Funeral Mass: Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Precious Blood Cathedral.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Journey at Precious Blood Cathedral.
