The Diocese of Algoma has established a new Diocesan Evangelism Committee, following a motion brought to Diocesan Synod in May 2025.

The motion, moved by Mr. Matthew Hoskin and seconded by the Rev. Canon Ed Swayze, asked Archbishop Anne Germond to establish a diocesan evangelism committee composed of clergy and laity from all five deaneries. Synod carried the motion, with an amendment, affirming evangelism as a shared responsibility of the whole Church.

As approved by Synod, the purpose of the Evangelism Committee is to develop a diocesan evangelism strategy by:

The amendment to the motion, moved by the Ven. Linda White and seconded by the Very Rev. Dr. Jay Koyle, clarified the committee’s role in supporting both deanery-level and diocesan-wide evangelism initiatives.

The formation of the committee reflects a growing recognition across the Diocese of Algoma that evangelism is central to faithful discipleship and parish renewal. Drawing members from across all five deaneries, the committee will focus on encouraging, resourcing, and supporting congregations as they seek to share faith and engage their communities in ways that are authentic, hospitable, and grounded in prayer.

The committee’s work will be shaped by listening, collaboration, and attentiveness to the diverse contexts of ministry across Algoma. Further details about its membership and initiatives will be shared as the committee’s work continues to take shape.
