The Diocese of Algoma is pleased to introduce a new and significantly improved way to find Anglican churches across our region. Through a partnership with the Anglican Church of Canada, we are now using the national “Find a Church” tool—a real-time, continuously updated directory that replaces our previous diocesan listing.

This shared resource was developed jointly by the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, bringing together church information from across the country into a single, accessible system. For Algoma, it means that parish details can be updated quickly and accurately, ensuring that those seeking a church community can find the information they need without frustration or delay.

“This tool was designed to make it easier for people to connect with Anglican communities wherever they are,” says Brian Bukowski, Manager, Web at the Anglican Church of Canada. “By maintaining a shared, national database, we can ensure that information stays current and accessible.”

For many years, the Diocese of Algoma maintained its own church directory. However, keeping that information up to date required significant time and effort, and even then, changes could lag behind reality. The move to a national system allows us to shift from maintaining data to simply ensuring it remains accurate at the source.

It also reflects a broader reality: we are called to do more with less and to steward our diocesan resources wisely. Partnerships like this allow us to share the work, reduce duplication, and benefit from tools that are maintained at a national level.

“We sometimes take for granted that people know how to find us—but we shouldn’t. Across Algoma, there are newcomers, visitors, and people seeking a place of worship who may not have any existing connection to a parish. If they cannot easily find a church, that becomes a real barrier. This new tool is a wonderful resource developed by the national church, and I encourage all parishes in the Diocese of Algoma to embrace this.” — Archbishop Anne Germond

The new directory reflects a simple but important truth: visibility matters. In a digital-first world, the ability to be found online is often the first step toward meaningful connection.

Clergy and parish leaders are encouraged to review and update their church listings to ensure accuracy. Even small updates—service times, contact information, or website links—can make a significant difference for someone trying to connect.
