The Diocese of Algoma invites applications for a part-time Indigenous Ministry Worker. This is a two-year term position, and open to a lay or ordained Indigenous person with a diocesan-wide focus.
Location
The successful candidate will be based in the Thunder Bay area. The role includes travel throughout the Diocese of Algoma for educational and ministry purposes.
Position Overview
The Indigenous Ministry Worker will:
- Support and uplift the history, languages, cultures, spiritual traditions, ceremonies, and decision-making practices of the Cree peoples in the Deanery of Thunder Bay–North Shore.
- Provide orientation for non-Indigenous clergy serving within the Diocese of Algoma.
- Support the ministry of the Diocesan Truth and Reconciliation Committee, helping the diocese make a faithful response to the Calls to Action of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and to the Church’s Apologies of 1993 and 2019.
- Develop and provide resources for use in Algoma’s parishes for National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21) and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) each year.
Compensation
The stipend for this position is $12,000 per year.
