The Diocese of Algoma joins the community of Thorneloe University in mourning the sudden passing of Stacy Allarie, who died in Sudbury on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the age of 43 years following a very short illness.
Stacy was appointed Interim President of Thorneloe University effective June 1, 2024, serving in that role until July 2025, when the Rev. Jason Tripp began his appointment as President. During an important season of transition in the life of the university, she provided steady, energetic, and thoughtful leadership.
Raised in Holtyre, Ontario, Stacy moved to Sudbury in 2001 to pursue her post-secondary education at Laurentian University. She completed her B.A. (Honours) in 2005 and her Bachelor of Education in 2009, specializing in junior intermediate education. She later earned a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities.
Stacy began her professional career at Laurentian U
niversity in 2012 as an Adult Liaison Co-ordinator. Since 2016, she had served with the Faculty of Graduate Studies as an Information Officer, supporting students in securing funding at local, provincial, and national levels. She was deeply involved in professional development programming and played a key role in welcoming students through orientation and other community-building initiatives.
Since September 2022, Stacy served as Dean of Residence at Thorneloe University, where she was committed to fostering a happy, healthy, and safe residence environment. Students knew her as a consistent presence — attentive, encouraging, and invested in their well-being.
Stacy was widely known for her joy, determination, and wholehearted engagement. Whether in senior administration or student life, she brought warmth, competence, and a deep commitment to community.
As students return to residence following reading week, they do so amid difficult news. The Thorneloe community, alongside her family and three children, grieve her untimely loss.
